Residents can develop skills needed for the green sector by joining the Council's Land Management and Arboriculture Bootcamp, funded through the London of Mayor Skills programme.

This four-week course includes both training and hands-on work experience. At the end of the programme, participants are guaranteed a job interview with employers, including Lampton Services, Hounslow Highways and Maydencroft, offering live opportunities.

Success story - Hounslow resident inspires next generation of Green Sector talent

Paola Valle was offered a role as a Landscape and Environment Operatives at Maydencroft after completing the Green Skills Bootcamp programme.

As a registered service user of Work Hounslow, Paola received career support and personalised guidance from employment advisors to help her take her first steps into the green sector.

Paola shares the joy of her new role:
"Every morning I wake up excited to go to work. This Bootcamp changed my life. I’ve gone from a previous job as a paralegal to leading new learners, driving trucks, building boardwalks, and planting trees — all while working outdoors, which is where I’m happiest."

Bootcamps for construction typically run for eight weeks, consisting of six weeks of training, during which unemployed residents can gain the qualifications required to work in the sector, followed by a two-week work placement.

In previous bootcamps, participants completed their placements and were granted a guaranteed job interview with employers such as Notting Hill Gensis, CField Construction, Telford Homes.

In June 2025, we partner with a training provider to launch the first short-term training course for residents interested in the construction sector who may not yet have the necessary qualifications.

Upon completion of the fully funded course, attendees can gain the CSCS Level 1 Labourer Green Card, enabling them to work for entry-level positions on construction. Work Hounslow supports attendees in accessing job opportunities. Learn more here.

Residents can complete a fully funded training programme to become the next generation professionals in the leisure sector

A pilot Fitness Instructor training programme was launched at the end of 2024. The programme runs for five weeks, including one week training in customer service. It supports attendees to complete the Level 3 Diploma in Fitness Instructing and Personal Training, qualifying them to work as Fitness Instructors.

After completing the course, participants are invited to a guaranteed job interview with the Lampton Group, a major employer operating sports and leisure facilities across the borough.
